5 in 1 Daal

This daal preparation is a mixture of 5 different variant of daals. This is very nutritious, high in protein and yet tasty. It is highly recommended for those who are on a high protein diet.

I generally buy this mix daal from Hypercity. If you dont have access to already mixed daal, then you can mix below mentioned daals in equal quantities. 200gms of mix daal serves 4

Ingredients :

Moong Daal (with outer green cover)
Masoor Daal
Toor Daal
Urad Daal (with outer black cover)
Chana Daal

1 medium sized onion -- finely chopped
1 medium sized tomato -- finely chopped
1/2 inch ginger
5/6 cloves of garlic -- make ginger and garlic paste
1 tsp Turmeric
2 tsp Red chilly powder
2 tsp Chicken curry masala (use Garam Masala if you do not want to use chicken curry masala)
1 green chilly -- finely chopped
4/5 stems of fresh coriander -- finely chopped
salt -- as per taste
1 tbspn Oil

Recipe :

As mentioned above mix all the 5 daals together. Cook the mixed daal in a pressure cooker.2 whistles are enough to cook the daal.
In a deep pan, put oil. Once oil is hot saute chopped onions till they turn pink. Now add ginger-garlic paste and let the onion cook for 2 mins. After 2 mins add the chopped tomatoes. Then add turmeric, red chilly powder and chicken curry masala to the onion and tomato mix. Let the masalas cook for 2 mins. Now add the cooked mix daal and some water (if required, daal should not be too watery). As the daal starts simmering, add the chopped green chillies and salt to taste. Daal should simmer on low flame. Let it simmer for 5 to 8 mins. Daal is ready to serve. Serve hot with rice or chapattis.
